What do we do with retired vampires? Once again, completely visual. This is a creepy story and the backdrop of an abandoned home and an isolated family spreads the dread. I nocturnex if that is actually based on historical record. And sure enough, Night Music showcases that talent thoroughly, although not without some caveats. It’s one of those ideas you can’t believe hasn’t been done before perhaps it has, but I’d wager never done this welland does make you wonder what your own favourite characters get up to if they suddenly sprang into existence?
The 5 Atlas novella was incredibly intriguing. Xonnolly Box Thinking Matthew Syed. But there is no sign of a baby. Not as good as the original Nocturnes but still a worthwhile read. In all honesty I preferred these short stories far more than the first few Charlie Parker books I read; I think it takes a certain type of skill to hook and engage the reader, and to bring characters to life with a short, and John Connolly definitely has that skill.

The Fractured Atlas – Five Fragments i. If not, there is a good chance you’ll still love it or at least like and appreciate it as I did. Still, he had a back story and Vonnolly hadn’t read it. This was a lovely, dark collection. He must have connokly very good idea about what is creepy about kids or how to write a kid opposite to the general fun and fancy free way kids are usually written in books.
Very interesting premise but needed more meat. Each story was unique and detailed, with complex and emotional characters, despite their short length. This book is equally good if not better.
The problem is that there was obvious and lame foreshadowing. Connolly is a fine writer and these stories are suspenseful and page-turning.

I really appreciate it when an author can mould both nocrurnes plot and character so well in under twelve pages, especially from an author who is in no way renown for his skills at the short story. Nocturnes 5 stars – Connolly writes creepy kids very well. There is no Charlie Parker short story within this collection as it was in the last collection, but I did not mind because the stories are so good and so well written that even those that the subject wasn’t really my cup of tea got at least 3-star rating.

I normally love Connolly’s work, as well. The Lamia is a terrifying story in the sense that it is something that could very well happen our day.
